AS PUBLIC SERVANTS

To: Highway Superintendent Briggs, Supervisor Mike Dvorchak, Town Clerk Robina Ward and Members of the Hillsdale Town Board

Greetings,

I live in Hillsdale and today I am writing to you to let you know that I stand with the Taghkanic Creek Old Road Society and strongly oppose the paving of Texas Hill Road and Apple Tree Lane.

I urge you to not underestimate the ecological effect that paving low traffic roads will have on the surrounding farms, wild lands, waters and wildlife; I urge the Town Board to reconsider any plan to pave Texas Hill Road and Apple Tree Lane.

As public servants, you have the duty to highly regard the opinion of men and women who live and farm on those roads. As public servants you have a responsibility towards our rural environment that goes beyond the convenience of a paved road: to preserve and protect wildlife habitats and waterways.

Has an assessment been made to evaluate the impact and negative consequences of paving these roads?

What do you suppose are the benefits of such dramatic intervention?

I am sincerely looking forward to your answers.

Respectfully,

Laura Johnson

Resident, Town of Hillsdale
